In this fourth in a series of six interviews Dr. William Sawyer, Dean of the Wright State University School of Medicine, discusses his thoughts and activities upon his arrival at Wright State University to succeed Dean John Beljan.

Dean Sawyer first discusses his first impressions of the university and the School of Medicine, then moves into a discussion of his first priorities as Dean. He addresses the first of three major areas of concern to him as Dean: the academic standards of promotion and progress in the School of Medicine.

In his discussion of academics Dean Sawyer then focuses on the areas of changes in teaching methodology, student remediation, grade appeals policy, and the establishment of new and innovative educational programs in the School of Medicine's curriculum
