Title: Interview number three with Douglas Durko conducted by James St. Peter on May 8, 1985 about the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University
Author: St. Peter, James
Description:

This is the third in a series of interviews with Mr. Douglas R. Durko, Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs in the Wright State University School of Medicine. In the first part of this interview, Mr. Durko analyzes the impact of the Office of Hospital Affairs on the School of Medicine's residency programs. Some of the major aspects covered in this discussion include: funding for graduate medical education; the accreditation of the residency programs; contractual relationships between the School of Medicine and the area hospitals where the residencies are located; and the Residency Policy Committee.

In the second part of the interview, Mr. Durko discusses his office's impact on the recruiting of faculty for the School of Medicine and the reallocation of resources to support recruiting. He also examines the questions of how his office deals with both retrenching certain existing residencies ans [sic] supporting growing residencies. He closes this portion of the third interview with his thoughts on the future of his Office for Hospital Affairs and the School of Medicine's development to date.

The third portion of this interview is devoted to an examination by Mr. Durko of the leadership of the School as exemplified by the first two Deans, Dr. John R. Beljan and Dr. William D. Sawyer. Mr. Durko looks at each in turn, offering his thoughts on their roles in developing the School of Medicine.
