The first part is a continuation of the first interview in that Dr. Beljan continues his description of the political problems facing the School of Medicine's development when he arrived as founding Dean. He then goes on to discuss other possible dangers to development, the interview process for his position, and the roles of Miami University and Central State University in the development of the SOM. The second part of the interview deals with the organization of the School of Medicine, with particular attention to particular facets of the administrative structure of the School such as: key individuals on the Dean's staff such as Dr. Zapala [sic] and Edward Spanier; the concept of family medicine and its importance; resource allocation for the School; the place of the School in the administrative structure of the University; the inter-relationship between the area hospitals and the School; the role of the College of Science and Engineering in the School's development; recruiting the faculty; curriculum development and the development of the Admissions Committee and admissions policy of the School. |
