Show full item record
The image shows a horse-drawn parade float featuring a birch bark canoe and Native American performers at the 1909 Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration. The history of locomotion in America was a section of the parade that started with the birch bark canoe and ended with a model of the Wright Flyer. All of the floats for the parade were sculpted by Joseph Horchert and designed by Henry Kabierske. Kabierske, of Fischer and Sons in Philadelphia, also designed most of the decorations for the event. The image shows the float in a residential area of downtown Dayton, Ohio.
