Patterson School boys, dressed as colonial soldiers, are standing at attention during the 1909 Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration opening ceremonies. Thirty-two pupils from the Patterson School, under the direction of Charles Hilgeman, performed a drill at the end of the opening ceremonies. The photograph shows the boys standing at attention. In the background are spectators watching the event including the heralds that accompanied Jonathan Dayton. The opening ceremonies were held at Van Cleve Park (also known historically as Newcom Park or the Log Cabin Park), which is now RiverScape MetroPark.
