| dc.description |
The float in this image is a model of a railroad locomotive steam engine that has the markings P.M. & L.R.R. on the side, as well as, the number 44. The float is being drawn by horses through a residential section of Dayton and spectators can be seen viewing the parade from side of the street. During the 1909 Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration the history of locomotion in America section of the parade featured floats representing various modes of transportation over time. This section of the parade started with the birch bark canoe and ended with a model of the Wright Flyer. In the upper right hand corner of the image is a sign for the Green, Green and Co. Bakery located at 136 North Main Street. All of the floats for the parade were sculpted by Joseph Horchert and designed by Henry Kabierske. Kabierske, of Fischer and Sons in Philadelphia, also designed most of the decorations for the event. |
