| dc.description |
The image shows boys dressed like Native American's riding on and following behind a float. At the Court of Honor, where the Wright Brothers were seated for the event, the boys performed a dance. This float was part of the history of locomotion in America section of the parade, which featured floats representing various modes of transportation over time, during the 1909 Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration. This section of the parade started with a birch bark canoe and ended with a model of the Wright Flyer. The photograph was taken in a residential area near downtown Dayton and spectators viewing the parade are on the sides of the street. All of the floats for the parade were sculpted by Joseph Horchert and designed by Henry Kabierske. Kabierske, of Fischer and Sons in Philadelphia, also designed most of the decorations for the event. |
