Maya Plaque and Pair of Ear Plugs. Chiapas, Mexico, Late Classic Period, c. 550-950 AD, Jade, Plaque: 2 3/4 x 1 3/8 inches, Plugs: Diameter 1 3/4 inches. The apple green jade was the most admired variety of jade in the Maya world. Yet the source of this colorful stone has yet to be discovered. the plague depicts a classic profile of a Maya lord or god with his elaborate headdress, earplugs and necklace. Harold W.
