The photograph is of Lincoln Beachey flying a Curtiss aircraft over the racetrack at Saugus, Massachusetts. The image was taken during the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911 and was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. Spectators are along the bottom of the image sitting in chairs by the side of the racetrack. The image is the same as item number MS338_06_23 which is in the form of a glass lantern slide. |
