The photograph is of Thomas Sopwith flying a Wright Model A Flyer with a seven on the tail at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911 and was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. Spectators are in the background near a fence with automobiles and buildings can be seen on the left side of the image. The number seven was given to Sopwith to identify his aircraft during the meet. |
