The photograph is of Thomas Sopwith flying a Bleriot monoplane with the number seven printed on the tail at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911. The meet was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. In the background spectators can be seen as well as buildings and a flag pole. Sopwith was given the number seven to identify his aircraft during the meet. |
