The new Mess Hall was built to replace the second floor of the Grand Dining Hall so that the building was more accessible for disabled veterans. The photograph is from the twenty-second page of the photobook titled, "National Military Home Dayton" and published by Keyes Souvenir Card Company in Dayton, Ohio circa 1910. The photograph has a handwritten caption on the bottom that reads, "New Mess Hall."
