The photograph shows the annual cadet military encampment of Miami Military Institute, 1903. The photo depicts "company street", two rows of tents facing each other, with cadets in dress uniform standing at attention in front of the tents. The majority of the cadets are holding rifles, two are holding bugles, and one in the background is holding a drum. Annual encampments were referred to as "Camp MMI". At the center of the photo seated female and male civilian spectators can be seen at a distance. Orvon Graff Brown, founder and president of MMI, is standing at attention in the center of the photo.
