dc.description.abstract

The cervical spine is an extremely sensitive region of the body susceptible to injury under various load scenarios. There are several methods used in studying the biomechanical behavior of the spine; anthropomorphic test devices (ATDsL in-vitro testing, and computational modeling. The aim of the current study is to study cervical spine behavior via computational methods, more specifically a finite element analysis. Finite element models of the upper and lower cervical spine were created and subject to various levels of loading in flexion and extension. The responses of the spinal models were analyzed in the context of results for ATD and in-vitro testing results.
