| dc.description.abstract | A series of alkoxy, phenylated terephthlates has been synthesized as monomer precursors to the corresponding poly(phenylene vinylene)s (PPV). The hydroxy terephthalate was synthesized via 1) a Diels-Alder cycloaddition between an ethynyl boronic ester and a cyclopentadienone and 2) hydrolysis/oxidation of the boronate ester. The synthesis, characterization and subsequent manipulation of the unique terephthalate as PPV precursors will be presented. This presentation occurred at the Wright State University Campus-Wide Celebration of Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities on April 8, 2011 |
