The photograph is of a Wright Model B Hydroaeroplane with a small triangular flag on the left wing piloted by Charles Wald reenacting a rescue that occurred in September, 1912 at Glen Head, New York. A man is swimming in the water toward the airplane. A man fell out of a boat and Wald used the plane to rescue him from the water and the local newspapers asked for an opportunity to take a photograph to show how the rescue was performed. The number 4 is written in the lower left corner of the negative. This item is part of the MS-355 Charles Wald Collection. |
